reader222 and her sweetie had their 15 year vow renewal this afternoon and it was lovely and I got to see people I love and eat bbq. ^__^ yey!

suibhne_geilt drove me and the cakes for the reception down from Madison and we made it with no cake mishaps! ^_^ yay! also, apparently I have not lost my cake mojo the past couple years of not baking. :P

Then awesome folks drove me out of their way to rescue the DoomCar from the mechanic's dungeon. And followed me back to a rest stop so I could catch a nap before driving the rest of the way home. ^______^ so much ♥!

So today was spent with awesome people, insomnia and driving. IS SO SICK OF DRIVING THANKS. D:

I also realized just how stressed I was this past week with my car three hours away in another state. :/ I actually feel like catching up on my commission list and making a few new designs ^___^ yay! (and maybe I'll sleep tonight? I can hope? *sigh*)

Also, I made a very fluffy salmandar for Corin and he made batnoises which for some inexplicable reason always makes me happy. ^__^ Also, I saw Windfarms!! I *love* Windfarms! They also inexplicably fill me with :D :D :D YEY! My perfect house is built near a Windfarm. ^____^

Anywhoo, I have a fabulous armature to put a head on now ^__^ (and some movies to watch while I do so! whee!)

Here are pics from this weekend! ^___^ I had a lot of fun at the opening. Julie Woodward, the owner was lovely to meet and set up everything and was generally awesome. ^__^ and reader222 was a godsend and fabulous travelpartner. ^__^ Whoot!

And!! The art is fabulous!! Seriously, if y'all are in the Jacksonville, IL area from now until August 7, totally go and check it out!! ^_____^

Here's the window. The dolls are by Oddolls.net I *loved* their teeths! :D and they're huge!

Pan accompanies me on the trip. He sits on the logs I brought to use as displays, but sadly had to leave in the car at the mechanics. (I'm sure the mechanics thought I was insane. seriously.)

And this is the back seat from my view. O_o; I'm also sure the State Patrol officer who helped me out also thought i was insane. *sigh* (I totally had a full view out my back window, though!!)

Also!! There are the elusive Skellieones. :D Three of them! This guy's name is Skellieone - Black. Descriptive, I know. The other two are Skellieones - Grey and Green. (I was kinda running out of time! D: I don't know what I would have done if Betsy hadn't written out a zillion tags for me! D: D:)

The show is up until August 7 and there'll be another Gallery Hop then that I will be attending. ^_^ (and then taking my stuff home afterward.) If anyone from around my area wants to come with me then, I'd love the company! And you get to see awesome dolls! whoot! ^___^

In car news, I called the mechanic this afternoon and he said that the new alternator he put in was toasted and he replaced that and tested it and it's all running and stuff. :/ I hope he's right as I have now spent more money on repairs than I have at the moment. :((

I'll be arranging for a ride out there this weekend when I head back to Rockford for Warren and Betsy's vow renewal and picnic. (Which is going to be Awesome!) Hopefully DoomCar will make it back to Madison in one piece. :/

I got home this evening and then went and made art with Artist!Cathy. It was lovely, but I am *so* very tired.

The opening went well, I thought. Betsy drove me and the art there and then drove me to pick up my car. (4-5 hours each way. D:) I managed to drive about 7 miles before the same thing happened again and my car died. :/

I called the cool old towtruck guy again (who greeted me with "So, we meet again!" LOL) and he towed my car back to the shop in Wenona, IL and I went to Rockford where Eric picked me up and drove me home to Madison. OMg so much driving!

THANK YOU!! to Eric and Warren and Especially Betsy for saving me.

I can hardly see straight right now and I think I'm going to sleep for a while now. Sleep is good and posting more is for tomorrow. (and yes, there is more. O____O;; )

I'm in Rockford, IL atm. I was trying to get to Jacksonville, IL, but my car broke down on the highway at almost exactly halfway there. :/

I get to stop by and see what it's going to cost me tomorrow. Hopefully it's just the alternator and I'll be able to afford getting it fixed to the point that I can drive it home. :/ It was SUPER SCARY, though to be trucking along at 70mph with an SUV on my ass when my dials all went POSSESSED BY ALIENS!! and crazy all over the place and my accelerator refused to work. D: D: I was SO HAPPY I was past the ginormo bridge before that happened. :( :( I ended up stopped on the median in the middle of farmland nowhere (right outside Wenona, IL? That's where my car is now.) and Warren & Betsy were home and drove an hour to come rescue me. (and then drove an hour back! D: D: I owe them SO MUCH NOW.)

And then they gave me dinner and a place to stay tonight. And! Betsy is going to drive with me to deliver the art to the gallery and we're going to stay for the opening and drive back in the morning. SO MUCH ♥! That's a 4 hour each way drive that she doesn't have to do and... and... *clings*

I feel truly lucky to have such awesome people in my life.

I called Mim and Eric too and they played google-fu to get me the numbers of a tow truck and the hotel I had a reservation at so I could cancel tonight and not get charged for it and stuff.

Also, I need to send a thank you to the state trooper who sat with me for an hour and a half while I waited for everything to work out and was rather generous about my surprise suspended registration. ._____. stupid parking tickets. I fail so hard there. :/ so yeah, I'll be visiting again in a month. :/ But he didn't have to stick around either, so I feel very grateful to him for that.

And! the tow place that Eric found for me is a little ornry old guy in overalls with a cheek full of chaw and a Kentucky accent and he was AWESOME. He only charged me $60 to tow my car to a place nearby and was really nice. He said I was lucky as almost all the tow places around there were closed for the weekend and that the place he towed me to would treat me right. I really hope so.

Also (kinda cryptic like) Stacie and Cathy? I owe you so much (you have *no* idea, man) for the help before I left. OMG. You fabulously saved me with that today and I'll totally give you more details when I get back home. O_O

And? for all the fail that today has had, I have some wonderful people in my life and I'm glad. Also, Pan kept me company to whole way and I promised to fix his arm if he stuck around, so I best get on that. ;)

I called Julie from the gallery and she'll be expecting me tomorrow, so tomorrow *better* go better. just saying and all. ^^v

Right now I just want to get some sleep and hope hope I get all the stuff I need to get done on time in the morning. :/ *crosses fingers*

Limbs!

So the limbs look a little big, but it's just that the torso and head have had a good day's more drying time and have shrunk more. The limbs should catch up soon. (and I'll be carving them as they get harder.)

I didn't get the hands done like I wanted to. So, those get bumped to Monday. Ah well. I'm still doing skellieones tomorrow. ^_^

I'm going to be painting it and tying/gluing it to a root so it looks like it'll run across the floor when it's all the way dry. ^_^ So silly!

So the VDhead thingie is actually having more problems with cracking than the bjdthingie. Which is good because I'm not really invested in it much. It's just silly looking and there to learn on. :D

Today is a marked improvement over yesterday.

and the bjd2.0 thingie now has legs and arms! and a torso! whoot! Pictures once my camera is charged. So, today I get to make hands and feet!

Tomorrow is too busy with other obligations to work on bjdthingie, but I might finish off a couple skellieones that I owe people and maybe a couple for my etsy store. ^__^ (as it take about 45 seconds to finish them due to them being almost finished. :P)

So yay! I got 6 hours in on the bjd experiment today. ^_^

I got the torso fleshed out, the head hollowed, eyes and mouth carved out and a bit more detail work on the head.

No cracking so far? *crosses fingers.

So my workspace is hella messy now, but I'll clean it up before I go to bed. I've still got laundry to fold and I don't want clay bits and dust all over it. :P

I also found some awesome techniques for faux stone and scales. ^-^ I think I'm gonna try and finish a basilisk while this dries. ^_^

Whoot! I'm really tired now. I think I'm gonna go make dinner before I clean up for the day. (and play with wire armatures while I watch a movie. ^_^)

BJD Experiment 2.0

When I first start a project, I don't usually show the beginning stages where I'm still learning and experimenting and all that. I'll wait I've got a pile of scrap that sits in my closet for five years until I can throw it out and have hopefully also ended up with a finished piece that I'm happy with and a ton of trial and error experience to use on the next twelve projects in a similar vein.

Also, it takes a good 2 years for me to work my way from concept to finished piece if it's in a medium or process that's completely unfamiliar to me. ('cause some of this stuff is *hard* and I'll totally burn through a couple hundred dollars in materials alone learning it and that takes a while to come up with. :P)

But! I'm kinda excited about making ball jointed art dolls. and I know that there are a bunch of people reading my stuff who're thinking about making their own as well, so I'm going to post my progress on this one. (also, it'll keep me posting 'cause I also tend to fall off the face of the planet during this stage, too. D:)

That said, here's the beginning of what I'm labeling BJD-2.0 in my records.

This is about 3 hours of work on the styrofoam armature (seen in my previous post) and 1.5 hours sculpting the head. I'm sure that I gave it too much detail and the clay is uneven in thickness in places, and it's probably gonna crack all to hell, but that's the learning curve here. ^___^ I made it simple, so hopefully when I have to re-make it it'll be pretty quick.

I'm also expecting it to be *really* fragile. I know the ways to reinforce the clay and all this, but this is my dry run and I'm just playing with how the clay reacts and see what I can do with it.

Also, if y'all have any tips and tricks for using airdry clay, I would *love* to hear them! ^_^ 'cause learning is fun, but reinventing the wheel is dumb. :P

So yus! new project! new medium! Hopefully I'll see something come out of it by fall. ^____^

(and I've got a million things on my to-do list to work on while the air clay pieces take a million years to dry. I might also make a top post of that to keep me focused and stuff.)

Oh! and I'm also letting this dry slowly I've got it sitting in an open plastic ziplock bag away from drafts and heat and I'll take it out and let it sit on my bench for a couple hours every day (and possibly add ears before it completely dries) and hopefully that should help it dry evenly. or not. it might just make a mess. :P

Yesterday I cleaned my house and my room. This morning I woke up and it creeped me out, so I did some work. ~_^

(and that laundry is clean! I just haven't put it away yet. It is apparently a nice kitty bed. awww.)

I learned today that yes, hot knives are quite a bit more effective than exacto knives when carving styrofoam. BJD Experiment v2.0 is go! :D

I am posting in the tiny bit of space I have before my laptop randomly starts blinking and making alarming noises and then shuts down. :/ hopefully I can get this posted? *crosses fingers and types really fast*

I have to wait until Tuesday before I can order another one, but at least I've got the opportunity! ^_^ So for now I'm posting by the seat of my pants in fear of the blue screen of death at every keystroke... :P (twitter is much better for this as I don't type as much and therefore don't lose as much at a time.) This post has been in my drafts and slowly added to for 3 days now. *sigh*

In other news, Wiscon was awesome! and the art show came together so well this year. It was seriously awesome to see so much incredible art all in the same room. I am so proud of everyone! ^_____^ I really think this was the best art show I've had the honor to work on so far. ^__^ *squishes all the fabulous artists* And I got to hang out with so many awesome people I only get to see once or thrice a year, too! yay! I'm totally looking forward to next year!

I am also dealing with my annual bout of con-drop, of course. Fortunately I'm unemployed and therefore have the privilege to not talk to anyone and sit in my room with my sketch pad and kitties and not do much for a couple days. I am happy to say that it's starting to drive me batty and I am now ready to go out and face like, people who expect me to hold a conversation or something. :P :P

Also, last night me and eric went out midnight grocery shopping at Woodmans and it was the fun. :P

So, yus. I post this so people still know I'm alive and wait with bated breath for my new laptop to arrive...

a Strangeness of Janes

So, the past couple days have been odd. Fun! but odd. yus.

Apparently, I forgot to sleep uhhhh, night before last night. I remembered this as I was driving to Baraboo and the construction cones were disturbingly hypnotizing. D: I was like, "It's noon! Why am I being lulled by the cones? ... Oh shit! I didn't sleep last night, did I?? D: D: D:" So I put on some obnoxious non-trancie music and made weird head bobbing things as I sang along REALLY LOUD. Which works when I'm super tired, but get's me weird looks. :P

But!! When I got to Baraboo, (and discovered that I have NO SIGNAL out there. D: and had to find a payphone at the state park to call coyote_eyes and let her know that I was there. MEH I SAY.) I had much fun. ^___^

Then me and coyote_eyes and Corin made an awesome photo thingie that shall be revealed sooooon! ^___^ YAY!! and then we had Culvers and I did the weird sing too loud with wind on me and make faces at the people around me thing on the way home. :P (also, by the time I hit Deforest, I was making up not!poetry and talking to billboards. *sigh* the things I do to stay awake at 75mph. thank the gods for cruise control.)

Then I went to bed at 7 and woke up at 9. >_>;

Also, Pan would like to let y'all know that he is a WallFlower!! and He in no way was responsible for that ~~orgy~~ dance last weekend. It was the imps!! Gods, people! Sexy Pan is Not Sexy! sheesh.

oh. my. god. I just just sat up in bed and had one of those cliche eureka moments where everything just clicks into place and a problem/creative block I've been working on for YEARS just... just... clicked. O_____o;

I'm a little stunned. dude. I just wrote it all out and it *all makes sense* wtf? I *never* make sense! I'm totally going to have a couple people who are more savvy than I am in the ways of art business look this over, but I think this really might work. I think I might actually have a business plan?!?! O_o and all the things I've been playing with for the past ten years fit in it. like, for real.

has been bleah. meh. and other -eh sounds.

I had a lot of fun at Minicon last weekend! ^_^ (and then seeing/missing some girlies when I got back. ^_^/;_; uh. yeah. :P) I must say that I am *completely* worn out from a 6 hour drive by myself. D: D: Next time I'm arranging my car better and getting someone to ride with me. (makes crazy!jane faces)

It was AWESOME seeing all you fabulous people, too! ^___^ I really wish I could have cloned myself and hung out with everyone more. ^_^ *hugs*

Coming home though, I've felt like ass for the past couple days. I'm just now starting to feel like my hips and shoulders are part of my body again and not solitary little volcanically active islands (and not in the good way. :(( ). D: But today, brainfog is lifting! yay! And I've started stage 2 of the art project that is my hair. yus. ^___^ (and no I'm not cutting anything but split ends at the moment. :P)

Also! I have cards now! ^__^ Like, ones I drew and stuff. ^_____^ YAY!

So, today I have to run do some errands before I head to the studio to work on stuff. ^_^ I've still got the Hut in my car so I can transport it and the dolls to a sekret location tomorrow. :P yey!
