via BoingBoing - bloody awesome! go Mike! heres hoping our Helen will take a cue from this - all those years of media coaching can surely pay off outside New Zealand...

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/boingboing/iBag/~3/0oArGC0mdkY/ask-the-former-head.html

Andrew sez, "Reddit's been rocking the 'I am an X, ask me anything' bit for a while now, but logging on to find this one was a bit of a shock. Mike Moore, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand & Director-General of the WTO from 1999 to 2002, recorded a youtube video introducing himself to reddit. People are asking him all kinds of questions this week & he'll be recording a video response on the weekend."
IAMA former Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, AMA (particularly regarding globalization). (Thanks, Andrew!)

ISO: Someone to pick up Blue Phoenix for me from the Trunk Show!

Hey guys.

I live in the UK so will be unable to attend the Trunk Show but I'm lusting after some Blue Phoenix. If anyone would be kind enough to pick up a bottle for me I would be eternally grateful?

[info]artfuldodger in [info]sinandsalvation

Cross-posted to bpal.org -- first come, first served

The nitty gritty details:

-Shipping is $3.75, unless we're swapping in which case, we each pay our own. I also ask that you get Delivery Confirmation (I will also get it for you whether you ask for it or not).

-Any type of PayPal is fine. I do NOT require you to chip in extra for fees.

-I will ship to Canada and Europe etc. -- check with me on shipping (9 times out of 10, it'll be the same 3.75, since I can't do DC for out-of-US stuff so it generally breaks even, but check with me anyway just to make sure)

-I will hold items for 48 hours unless we arrange otherwise. After that, they go back to being available.

My full wishlist for swapping purposes can be found here: here -- I'd prefer to sell right now though, which is why I'm posting here. Still, if you want what I've got but haven't the funds, thar be ye olde linkage to the wishlist.

What I've got:

LE 5ml
Mother Shub's Toothsome Banketstaaf
-- full to neck, tested cleanly: $17
Cake Smash -- full to just under label (about 3/4 full), tested but had minor spillage, so fingers did touch rim: $15 (please provide forum name to purchase)
Lilith vs. the Giant Crab -- full to neck, tested cleanly: $17 (please provide forum name to purchase)
Fearful Pleasure -- full to top of label (backup bottle): $18

Meme #3

This first half of the week has been pretty intense for me at work, both physically exhausting and emotionally challenging. I haven't touched any pages because of it (when you spend 11am-8pm at work, there's no time or mental energy to draw). But while I was in 'hiatus' mode, I tried to keep up my daily drawing by working on the third meme a bit. Finished it up to warm myself up as I try and catch up today and tomorrow.

Not a page but a Meme! )

Trunk Show pick-up + potential Trunk decant circle + New Dark Delicacy decant circle

Good afternoon, lovely ladies~

Doing another round of Trunk-Show pick-ups. :( Sorry for the price-hike, but I have to pay for a train ticket, bus ticket (or gas payment, depending if I can find a friend to drive me), and a place to stay Saturday evening (since the home I normally stay in is charging to stay over the holiday, and I'd like to stay Saturday night)

Click here for the info, list, and to sign up! If you've already commented, don't worry about it; just make any edits over there :D
http://community.livejournal.com/css_circles/11524.html

NOW, if enough people sign up to cover the travel costs, I will happily do a Trunk decant circle. Maybe six people at $20 each = six bottles, six different decants? In increments of that. Er, not sure how we'd all agree on bottles though..maybe just each person gets to choose one?

Click here to sign up: http://community.livejournal.com/css_circles/12018.html

Shall we wear name-tags to this event?
-----------

Dark Delicacy circle

Tax makes the bottles ~$22 each, so $3.75 per decant or $2 per half decant--needs 5/6 to fill before it flies!

Shipping: $3.30 w/ DC in the U.S.; international just tell me your country :D. Click Any of the descriptions to sign up!

STORY TIME AT DARK DELICACIES
Heavy oak shelving, cracked leather bindings, incense-soaked parchment, ancient inks, baneful aromatic herbs, and crumbs of spilled sugar-glazed lemon butter cookies that have been accidentally dragged from the kiddie section of the store.

SUE’S GREAT OLD PUPPET SHOW
Sue’s adorable Cthulhu hand puppets and whirling Nyarlathotep marionettes help kids learn about ancient and terrible extraterrestrial beings! A wacky way to introduce your little ones to forbidden blood-chilling rites!

Hot cocoa, tiny marshmallows, white glue, stick-on googly eyes, and felt!

THE NAMELESS CITY DRIVE-IN THEATRE
Chrome bumpers gleaming in cold, exhaust-fume laden night air. Soggy foliage and crushed grass dotted with popcorn that has been crushed under rubber tires. Leather seats moist with skin musk and the sweat of groping hands fumbling under ceremonial robes.

THE SNACK HUT
Hot popcorn covered in a glowing golden liquid substance, fried things, and artificially flavored cherry frozen carbonated beverages, extra-loaded with high-fructose corn syrup.

Have a great turkey day! Or, if you don't celebrate it, a great rest of the week :D I'm going to be shivering under a mass of blankets until Bocelli appears.

"itching something" vs. something itching

I saw a question posed in a magazine from someone writing in (theoretically) that talked about how she "itches her dry skin" and the complications that arise thereafter.

Doesn't the dry skin itch, and then she scratches it? Is this usage unique to a particular geographic area, or is it incorrect no matter where you go?

Thanks.

Back to Bento Basics

Back at work. Back to lunch. I found a terrific subzi recipe from the Indian food site Talimpu: www.talimpu.com. It's a corn and methi masala, very yum. A brown basmati rice pilau with sprouted kala chana, of my own creation and parantha. The ubiquitous müesli for breakfast and pomegranates for ever!!! Tis the season.

Sales Revisited!

Heeeey! It's the return of the quickie sale! My remaining half-bottle from the last one, plus two which I've since retested and discovered don't work with my chemistry.

Once again, shipping is free within the US or Canada, and within the US you will get DC. Insurance is $1.75 extra, and if you live overseas I'll tack on a dollar to help cover those shipping costs, but otherwise what you see is what you pay. I frimp with every order!

Bilquis: Honey, myrrh, lily of the valley, rose otto, fig leaf, almond, red apple, and warm musk. HALF BOTTLE, $7
Sugared Violets (Love Potions): Our blend of 5 kinds of delicious sugars spin a sweet web over a combo of delicate violets. FULL, rollerball bottle, $6
MYSTERY BOTTLE: You might remember this one I picked up from [info]nursekins. XD It's a bottle purchased from the Lab in 2007 as El Dia de Reyes, and it is labeled El Dia de Reyes, but the oil inside isn't that blend! Instead it's a rather nice floral blend, sweet and light without being cloying at all. I have no idea if it's another LE from that same line or what, because my ability to pick out floral notes is really bad unless they're rose or lavender. XD SOLD

Rushing so fast it feels slow.

So far today I've dropped off a few fliers, failed to get a haircut, succeeded in changing a broken hose on the Jetta, and am now in a holding pattern awaiting target retrieval. Need to:
  1. Get appetizer supplies at the co-op.
  2. Get motor oil off hands.
  3. Try to get some laundry going.
  4. Flier more.

And I'd like to:
  • Get hair cut.
  • Get shower.
  • Get all laundry done.

Wish me luck.

Much to be Thankful For

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. I'll be closed and enjoying a turkey at home with my family.

Then comes Black Friday.

Every year I get myself psyched up over the good sales I'm told to expect and every year the same thing happens : everyone goes to the crowded malls for some dubious sales and every year my sales are lower. I just can't seem to get it through my thick head that Black Friday is for the "big boys", not for me. But I refuse to open at 5:00am.

Comics are in today and on the shelf. Next week, comics are a day late and will be here Thursday, Dec. 3.

I'll be open on Sundays from Noon to 5:00pm from now until Christmas. Tuesday through Saturday is Noon until 7:00pm. Still closed Monday.

Have a safe and happy Holiday.

Greg

Bless you. / Bless them.

I find myself using the above expressions, when I'm genuinely touched by someone being very noble, sweet or naive. Mostly preceded by "Awww..." (I emphatically do not mean it in a religious way. And I'm not talking about someone sneezing either.)

Is that just a weird solecism of mine?
In what situations would you expect to hear these expressions?
What kind of person would use them?

Maybe I'm about to find out that I'm talking like a schoolmarm here, but I'd rather blush and learn than stay ignorant. So don't spare me!
